New regulation on reporting on climate issues

The events of the past year and the resulting energy crisis have provoked an unprecedented global response that has led to an accelerated rethinking of the way we deal with fossil fuels. Regardless of the different motives or competing interests, this has led to a concerted effort by a broad group of individuals and organizations from different sectors.

The focus is on two main aspects: first, to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels in order to cut CO2 emissions, and second, to continuously increase the share of renewable energies in our everyday lives. An often overlooked point here is the intelligent use of energy resources, which requires improved energy reporting and efficient data management.

This is precisely the strategy that the Federal Council has chosen. The ordinance of November 23, 2022, shows that this trend is taking hold at the highest level in Swiss legislation. This is not a short-term development.

In fact, according to the new ordinance, as of January 1, 2024, "publicly traded companies, banks and insurance companies that employ at least 500 people and have total assets of at least 20 million Swiss francs or sales of more than 40 million Swiss francs are required to report publicly on climate-related matters. Public reporting includes, on the one hand, the financial risk that a company incurs through climate-related activities. On the other hand, it must be disclosed what impact the company's business activities have on the climate. In addition, it must be described what reduction targets the company sets with regard to its direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions and how it plans to implement them." The primary goal of the new regulation is to improve the reporting of large companies in order to ensure their accountability and to promote the transition to more sustainable practices and economic decisions. A well-organized and centralized fleet management system such as autoSense fleetPro can support in meeting the legal reporting requirements. In addition, fleetPro can facilitate the transition from vehicles with conventional powertrains to more environmentally friendly modes of transportation such as electric vehicles, while reducing emissions from existing fossil-fueled fleets by reducing the distances traveled.

Sustainability is the key word. By analyzing telematics data, autoSense offers a versatile tool for identifying areas of action that can be optimized.

autoSense fleetPro, as a data-based solution, enables the optimization of fleet deployment, increases transparency, identifies unnecessary trips and thus contributes to the reduction of CO2 emissions and fuel consumption. Most importantly, it provides a solid basis for informed decisions to optimize fleet size and enables better estimation and planning of vehicle replacement and transition to electric vehicles.

In addition, autoSense offers a wide range of tools and modules to help companies prepare for future technological advances, regulatory guidelines and legal requirements, and make fleet management more effective and flexible.
